The 5 best gluten free snacks while working from home (or lounging)

Currently people around the world are staying home and trying to stay healthy. While staying home, and especially when you’re working from home — snacking and finding the best gluten free (easy) recipes are a priority. If you’re trying to cook gluten free at home, figuring out what snacks or foods to make that are also gluten free can be overwhelming. I was diagnosed Celiac over 20 years ago, but going to the grocery store (especially now) and finding foods that are yummy and don’t take much time to prepare can be difficult. Here are my favorite FIVE gluten free snacks that you can look for at the grocery store (or in your delivery/pick-up order) now.

  1. Corn tortilla chips and salsa - these are always delicious, for a snack in between meals or a side to a taco or enchilada night. Corn tortilla chips are (almost) always gluten free. Always read the ingredients, but if the chip is made from corn, it’s likely gluten free. Gluten free corn chips are available from brands including: Tostitos, Siete, Mission Foods, Garden of Eatin’, and more. Salsa - is a low calorie and tasty snack. I haven’t found a salsa I didn’t like… red salsa, mild, medium, verde, all of them are delicious. Always double check the ingredients, but most salsas are gluten free. I’ve also recently been introduced to Riceworks Crisps - love the Salsa Fresca and Sun-dried Tomato flavor.

  2. Popcorn - my favorite type of popcorn is hot air popcorn (yes, I have a hot air popper). I buy popcorn seeds and put them into the popper and within a minute or two I have freshly popped popcorn that I add butter and salt or olive oil and salt to. Air poppers are inexpensive and can be bought online easily. You can also buy microwavable popcorn, most are gluten free because corn is naturally gluten free, but always check the ingredients. I have recently been snacking on Oogie’s Gourmet Popcorn, Popzup Popcorn, and Like Air Baked Puffcorn.

  3. Fruit - fruit is always a delicious snack, and of course - naturally gluten free. My favorite fruits are grapes, blueberries, watermelon, and grapefruit. Of course, be sure to wash all of your fruit (especially grapes and berries) with fruit and vegetable wash or soap and water thoroughly before enjoying.

  4. Yogurt - When I’m not feeling super savory, I love to grab some yogurt and add some gluten free granola, berries, and honey. This is also one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast. I usually get the fat free greek style yogurt in plain from brands like Chobani and Fage.

  5. Cheese - I love cheese and crackers… or just cheese. Some of my favorite types of cheese are manchego, goat cheese, white cheddar, brie, and burrata. I’ve also recently been into the Tillamook cheeses from Portland, OR. But really, all cheeses are delicious, especially on top of corn chips (hello nachos) or if you’re feeling fancy, on a cheese plate with Absolutely Gluten Free Original Crackers.

I hope these quick snack ideas help you navigate the grocery store and give you some delicious snack options whether you’re working from home, packing a lunch, or just on the go! Always check for ingredients, but these things are typically gluten free.
